Research and learn historical and geographical contributing factors to a current event, problem or issue in your assigned region.

STEP 1

Use a search engine to discover and CAREFULLY write the English spelling of your region in upper right of your map, even if same as French. Hint: scroll down.

STEP 2

Use online and reference room atlases and maps to find your region and its borders on your map. USE A PENCIL until I approve it. Label your region (either language) and all its borders, eg. countries or oceans that touch it.

STEP 3

Read MANY online news articles to find a current problem or issue THAT INTERESTS YOU. Once you find a source about that topic, WRITE THE TOPIC ON THE BACK OF YOUR MAP & WRITE DOWN THE SOURCE (paper title, article title & author AND THE URL)

STEP 4

Read (with no pen or pencil) quickly and with focus MANY encyclopedia and history book articles to find hints about how and why your issue developed. DON'T COPY! When you find something pertinent, memorize it, then close the reference book or minimize the online page, and write it down FROM MEMORY in your notes.

STEP 5

When you have gathered probable contributing factors, construct a thesis, or Main idea sentence
