International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
Curie offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme to help academically qualified students gain a valuable competitive edge for admission to college. Offered in grades 11 and 12, this comprehensive, two-year college preparatory curriculum helps students develop the critical thinking skills and knowledge needed to excel academically after graduation. Throughout the two year program, students complete several IB required assessments for each course, and at the end of grades 11 and 12, students sit for world-wide IB examinations. Based on their exam and other IB assessment scores, students may be awarded university credit for their IB course work at Curie. Each university has its own policy regarding credit awarded for IB scores. Students also take AP courses and sit for several AP examinations during their four years at Curie.
To prepare for the IB Diploma Programme, freshmen and sophomores enroll in honors and Advanced Placement courses. Once students begin the IB Diploma Programme (grades 11 and 12), they take seven university level courses per year in the following subjects:
- English and World Literature
- World Language - French or Spanish
- Individuals and Society - History of Europe
- Experimental Sciences - Biology or Physics
- Mathematics
- Visual Arts or Information Technology in a Global Society
- Theory of Knowledge
We also offer the IB Career Programme (IBCP), which is offered to certain CTE majors at Curie. CTE sophomores in certain majors may apply for admission to the two year CP, and if they are admitted, they complete three IB classes during their junior and senior years.
