Curie Metropolitan High School for the Performing & Technical Arts is part of Chicago Public Schools, and is located on Chicago’s southwest side. Instead of students auditioning to gain admittance to our programs, we believe in equal access through the arts and expose every child in the school to an education that is rich in the arts. Through the arts, Curie students engage with innovative thinkers and leaders to experience the arts both as audience members and as artists. Such an education is vital to their success as individuals and as productive members of society. We emphasize not only creativity and imagination but also the values of cultural understanding and social harmony that the arts produce so well. The performing arts department connects students through thought, practice, and performance. Music, dance and art teachers at Curie are agents of change, combining academic excellence personal support and a creative-student-centered vision. These students learn that all art forms are interconnected. They learn to understand the social, historical and cultural contexts of all the art forms. At Curie we offer dance, drama, media arts, theatre tech, music, chorus, orchestra and visual arts. The courses are sequential and cumulative. Through the creative and performing arts, Curie provides opportunities for all students to develop awareness and understanding of the diverse society in which they live. We believe in diversity and giving all students an opportunity to study any art form that they choose. Curie understands that the arts are an ideal platform for developing inclusive attitudes and beliefs and for challenging stereotypes based on difference. Curie is committed to providing authentic learning experiences that will provide a foundation for life-long learning. Our mission is to prepare students to become leaders and engaged citizens in a global society, enabling them to contribute positively and responsibly to their community and the world around them.
