Gone but Not Forgotten
My sister and I were having out monthly supervised visits at a Catholic Charities building downtown. Out visitation cubical was hospital while. Blindly florescent lights buzzed over head. There was a dingy brown carpet and the room was strewn with toys. A dinged up yellow metal pick-up truck was in one corner. In the middle of the floor a Barrel-O-Monkeys container had tipped and spilled it's red happy faced monkeys.
We were having a tea party. My grandmother had given me a petite rosebud set for my last birthday. I had just turned five. There were little cookies on doll sized saucers and red cool aid swam in the cups.
I remember being so happy, pretending to be elegant princesses. Our dollies sat on wither side of us, my Molly and Shelby's bear, Satin. Shelby had these blond spring like curls that bounced at her face when she laughed. Her eyes were of the softest honey brown, but her sweet cherub face could fool you...
She asked for more cookies and when you adoptive mom said no, Shelby got up, grabbed my dolls and smashed Molly's face on the table. Mollie's beautiful hand painted porcelain face rained onto the floor. I stood there gasping, letting the realization sink in.....She had SMASHED MOLLY!!!
I left that day hurt by my little sister, and that was the last time I saw her. Her adoptive parents had requested that our visits be discontinued. That was 12 years ago.
I just want you to know that wherever you are I love you and I miss you Shelby!!!
