Who is Mr. R

Mr. R is a graduate of the Masters in Teaching, Secondary education from the University of Melbourne. At the UniMelb, Mr. R focused on TESOL and Drama education, completing a Master's Thesis on using Drama Pedagogy to enhance language learning comprehension. Mr. R has most recently performed in a local community show about the Purim story. He has previously and will again present workshops for teachers and students at the Illinois High School Theater Festival this January. Recently, he directed a production of Noises Off in Hawthorn, Australia. Mr. R studied for his undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He majored in Linguistics, focusing on Sub-Saharan African Languages (KiSwahili) and Psycholinguistics. Mr. R is also a Veteran of the United States Air Force.

Mr. R continues to pursue education and directing connections, exploring how theatre for a young audience can be used to tackle tough questions, ideas, and topics. Mr. R is writing a book for teachers to make more engaging and active lessons revolving around well-known English books. He has created dynamic story creation for texts like, The Great GatsbyTo Kill A Mockingbird, and Holes. He is continuing to work on this and advocating for better Fine Arts education programs outside school.
 
Mr. R's other activities include being; Associate Director of Play Selection for the Illinois High School Theatre Festival and a member of the Illinois Theatre Association. He is also a Level 2 Certified Coach with USRowing and is a Novice Coach for a club team in Chicago. Mr. R likes to stay busy and give back to the local community. He is also an avid traveler and has been to 47 states, 34 countries, and five continents.
