annotation of each article includes Sports quizzes and and editable but if you want to edit something that you're teaching structure wise than you can easily do so some articles include which is nice idea for that unit then you can choose articles that that cover central idea so that you'll be able to figure this so this is your teacher dream that you'll see you can see by the blue or the aqua Arrow you can monitor the kids so that you're assigning it during class time you can see how what the students are doing so this first student was on there for 1 minute so I I would be like to get back on there or she the next student receive 34-28 show sport that means that they put in for a notation that'll tell you if they've completed the quiz so if your work if you're assigning a new zla during class time you can see what they're doing if you look at the purple Arrow it's very easy to put it in present mode so if you want to Model A notation so you want a model bunch of students questions wrong in the quiz you can put it in you can share it with you could print the article so say some students to work online order or they get buried I need a print version so it has a lot of nice features the Green Arrow shows the reading levels so what's nice about this and very useful Any teacher is that the Lexile of the article can change so they're still getting the same content they're just at their reading level which is fantastic for a student go to 12th grade on this one the lowest this article is 560, then go all the way to a second grader so it's a penny when you set your features there are some where you can assign an article say the first day of the beginning of the school year were they can't change it and I'm going to set it up wait just to see how they do write a base point for me as a teacher in September I can do that when I'm setting my features but you can also knocks at the future so that they can maneuver with stay read several articles the system will automatically put it in their own grade level which is really important because sometimes they'll just start reading and answering the question without looking at the beginning it's going score so say the student at 50% or end and that would be your choice stablish those rules are presets with the students early on because sometimes though want you to constantly be sensible just get they took a bunch of our they did a bunch of assignments because another teacher is also using it and sold their graph is going to show all assignments that they do and they didn't realize that they didn't have to make up all of the assignments if you missed for March to like I just wanted students to start like you got your computer or you know were able to start just start that unfortunate for her because she ended up doing a lot of work you know went back and so that's why you see a bunch of green dots for her scores on the bottom is for your class when you click on your class if there are multiple classes if you click on a class this is what you see so you see the article they read their score what what you put in as far as their Ravens score and then the red yellow and green dots show there's for that skill so going back to the list of skills that we talked about earlier shows how they're doing so number for this shooting at the top overall she needs a lot of support in in the first goal which is it's not meaning I can't think of it off of that so those are correlate to the skills and then if you see him looking at we're looking at the bottom picture so that for each article it'll tell you what they had difficulty on and then degree is what they did very well and then sometimes they're there will be yellows so if you look at the next really should have mentioned these are two different students that's why top where does 5.5 9 is their overall reading level of the articles that they read it'll tell you how many that I don't like that number because it's not how many they actually read a complete it it's how many that they open them looked at the sometimes don't look at an article at the 5th grade love are the numbers  is not the phone number so far. CPA is my Gmail but not my Google password so mine isn't seemed but it's very easy to I'll show you how to create a class if so to create a class if you didn't sign in with Google clip-on creative class and then you add your number so we can call this practice to click your grade level then your subject area and then I'm the elementary content filter is if you're an elementary school teacher some of the content they send it it's it's reality right these are articles that are public and so sometimes they can be pretty heavy social emotional and so if you don't want any of those types of art for your students that you would like in high school and when you yeah so we'll see how it is practice to all the way across if you click on the three dots you can add students you just copy that link and if you have a joint easiest way more simple than this way is to just click in classes if you signed in with Google Google what's your classes will automatically be there cuz I want to show you how to assign an article a topic that you're working on currently so I'm doing a nutrition so then when she pops a nutrition a bunch of Articles come up so as you scroll down right she could scroll scroll find something that matches or a she or something that's stop students will be interested in and then you can click more and more even more and more and more articles will come out I'm so this article as you can see on top is also available in mesh so the student is better at reading Spanish the lifestyle she can change depending on students I really like this because it seems like all the students have the same article even though they're at different levels you know having discussions about these articles like for me I teach English I use it so when I do my mental health unit all my articles are based on those articles that I assign are based on the article let's go to a sign before I go to the options. you select your class so go to practice to oh that's okay and then you can type in your instructions oh yeah so pick it up cuz I have a kid in there sounds of kids in my on my caseload that are not in my classes and if I don't have any data for them come with me so you and scroll down here able to see right away who did what how they scored the students who did the writing you know you can see that I answered their scores and rotation Annabelle is the only person who did annotations and some students didn't didn't open it up so you can see here have two accounts because one of them is open with Google Tasks type in their own login and password so you can easily delete the the wrong one from your file I think I got it but it's nice that you get the information right away so turning right you know right this is a nice way to capture everything really quickly and when you assign it you can a sign it into their Google classroom and it'll allow you to do it so let me go back so if I wanted to wish my draft I'm getting feedback I don't know where that that is I'm trying to go back to the article that has it all of the grace that died in the draft well go back and show you guys how to do it from Google weather so activities so what I really like learning and this is I'm actually going to give you all your items that information because I can see some students might do it after the due date I got to go back and you can see right away so I haven't scored this one she still in blue so this is just a real quick do you know who you still need to talk to you if they have any particular assignment the reading summary is also very nice because again that's a place to gather so mystudent in particular she is in 3 classes or she's also the vi program she's in is also using news Ela so it'll show choose your own article or I'll be a little more specific shoes searching there typing in mental health and then they can choose their own article what I found is that they do much better on articles that they choose for themselves as I find it very interesting so when I'm doing I do make sure that I look at to look at their independent reading articles because if you can see here and I are almost the same average article level but she's for she has scored a 52 overall with my class but then she's done 75% so I make sure when I'm giving that data that I'm not saying she's going to hear you know which this should give you the correct overall but I always do getting a particular cuz sometimes they just have one that's like a 25 and if you don't want that in their average you can delete it so it's just up to you like maybe they've done very very well I just had want that score so you can say hey do you want to retake it or don't find out what the deal is I'm also know that students can find these articles and answers on the internet just like just everything so just make sure that they're not popping in and out of 200 so I don't think some of them I know when I told her students that they figured it out really quick so I think that's those are the main things I wanted to talk about so I don't know if you have any questions or want to do some searches Sissy to see how you can use it in your class does anybody have any questions at this point no no questions I was just kind of curious I was assumed that the didn't enjoy using this and you do it about once a week or how do you structure it I used to do once every other week because gather more true data okay matches what I say I'm doing in the IEP but it just depends you know sometimes things are sometimes a student you might have signed it in the student but I want to do it every other week and then if another teachers using it that's in the same grade level altering it that would be very nice be so much more data the students like The articles that they can choose 1 * when we were depending on the the novel we're reading the Articles will relate so they like some more than others do they like seeing their own progress being track this way again I've assumed that they do but I find it useful or helpful or does it give them Insight with what do you think I think first, see if it's important to them then they do but I don't think they look at the craft as much as they do cats this and then they'll be like on this and I got 2500 please let you know real is there constantly retaking the quizzes don't write so I tell them I'm going to go out today there's going to be so just like Apartments but sometimes if I'm reviewing some singer teaching something I take up some of that class time so that I know they feel stress like I want to get this done and they're kind of rushing through it then I might be something I will restart because you know when your y'all or reminding them like I'll remind them or models meditation or how do I answer a particular type of question or I'll show them an example of someone else's and I don't want them to feel Rush you know I mean I know them so they know they want to be done before the Bell Rings they don't want to do it for homework and sometimes closest rush through it so it just depends on the day and what's a schism what are some days around like today okay thanks like with her scores she she shouldn't be reading at the 56 pillow because she Eagles scores so I always remind her to to lower it but she works with it she is visually impaired to she likes to have it read to her and so she sick but it's being read to me so I can she wants to keep that she wants to keep you know you're in a hatchimals conversations with them to like me as she did on her own during autumn he's all she did at home because she thought she had to catch up on all the articles that she missed so she probably don't like this when she took 3 minutes I'm sure it looks like I'm getting this done so I feel bad that she didn't realize that she didn't have to make up all these articles but there's nothing I can do because obviously she was doing them on her own Jared Leto you know somebody were there he would remind her to lower the grade-level phone but it's a really nice it's a great resource article types literally never never ends whatever topic you're on and history are in English or you can look up you know on top again and it'll give you anyone them when they're when they're looking up their own articles you know stay there until Tommy poster into video games it's going to pop up all these articles another thing and it has text that will say you're on a unit on a particular unit say I was doing something with, there are texts that people have created already and so when you click text up there's a bunch of Articles already in there so it saves you from doing those searches because then you could just pull from here or you can create your own text sets and if if really want to use Newsela next year or you're going a little further and trading your old texts. So like for my classes that I created eater by cop so we read the hate you give so I have a check stub for that unit inequality in education unit be sorry about topics that they have pitched so I have units for the Holocaust so it just depends what I was in sociology I started one but then we stopped using it so just so you know what articles that you can see 6 articles I have in there and then I could just easily assign them just to dance you know to my classes and I took that class and then I quit a sign and it'll give me the option to assign it to their give me the option to sign into Google classroom and somehow there so when you share it you can share it on Google Classroom I'll be sure to delete it cuz they're going to be like why are you so you can say what classes you want to share to is it an assignment set a very user-friendly and then just like you assign any assignment in Google Classroom you would do it this way to change your point value if you needed to provide a Tuesday to cetera and then they would click on the article and they would go straight into it so I really like the feature that it connects to Google Classroom easily any other comments or questions it really is user-friendly and again it's a really easy way to assign articles on you know variety of topics right now we're doing titanosaur. still talking about coronavirus but you know what we're trying to do things that are positive so these are the two that I assigned my students are doing now either they're there their they're what they want to do with it then some of them have done are some of them want to write a poem and so they're going to do something that someone else happiness and freedom song lyrics how to do with positive messages so you connected however you know you want
