I was just trying to be praying hard for you all got to die from your mama have been trying to go for the pain the World Cup Table last Empress hard to get it's doctor and guess what I'm going to say first I'm proud of you right now I'm proud of you for taking to think about what courses might be best to prepare you for your future and I'm really glad you're considering advanced placement classes really intentional as many students as possible get the opportunity Fitness classes that are going to prepare you for what's coming after Carrie you probably heard me say that you're he's a great school but I want you to do something bigger and better after Kiera and planning for that bigger and better things right now is the best thing you can do for yourself so I'm proud of you for taking time to do research in time to learn about what opportunities we have here and taking time to find yourself senior year or your later years in in high school to be like some electives that are relaxing for you but the reality is more into the military or interior stop program like whatever is next you should prepare yourself best by ensuring your challenging yourself now cuz you want to put your best self out there after Curie so thank you for taking time to watch these videos we have a lot of awesome teachers teaching a lot of in AP classes and I hope you pick one two maybe three maybe more that are great fit for you do condors Morgan welcome back placement student my name is mr. I'm one of the school counselors here. I'm here with fellow school counselors Miss Perkins dr. Peterson and mr. Coronado and a group of students for a currently taking AP courses at. Rap ambassadors volunteer their time to come and tell us the grade level which AP class or classes are taking and will be answering a variety of questions that will give you a better picture of what taking an AP classes all about after student questions and answers you work your presentations AP teacher explaining what their classes will include so thank you for being here and with that said here is Miss Perkins dr. Peterson and our theory AP ambassadors thank you so much Mr. Smith for the introduction so our first question what do you see as the benefit of taking an AP AP classes our First Student please my name is Arrington and I'm a junior and I'm in AP Psychology what I see has the benefit of AP classes are that you can earn called credit and It prepares you for college by a sudden difficulty and challenging you to see what you can accomplish thank you next my name is Brad Jones I am a senior and I'm taking AP Human Geography as well as AP English Lit Lang and lit and the benefits of taking AP classes with B that you get college credit are these classes also it helps to prepare you for college unlike other classes it really does prepare you for a more challenging things on because everything that is given is more more in. when you come to your responses and Analysis when it comes to your essay everything is more of like you have to pull more from it so it really helps you to think and get ready for like all of those College papers that you have to write eventually thank you the next season please my name is Karina. I'm a senior and I'm currently taking AP Lit and benefits about taking AP classes I'm able to challenge myself and see that I'm capable of doing more than just honors classes I'm able to earn college credit and improve my learning ability and skills awesome thanks Daniel me I would say one of the best things that I got in for my screen shaking AP classes my name is Dana Real by the way I'm a junior and I take AP Language and Composition and AP Sion computer science has one of the best things that I got in from a AP class and one of the benefits or to be whenever I ask my teacher question they Marcus you can ask teachers questions about subjects ranging from what you study right now along with advice you come to take on a disease that if you just that I've had is kind like a mentorship program as well since one of the other objectives of 88 in an AP course it's a pretty for college that is also with the teachers want to do so you can you can use them as a mentor and you can use them for any question that you've had so that's how I've gotten a lot of experience or Garnet a lot of knowledge about college is there myepcc that's one of another benefits thank you Elizabeth you're next hi I'm Elizabeth and I'm a senior in it I feel like with taking a bath horses obviously it's going to be hard because they're like classes but you get a lot of more like one on one time with you specific help that you need because Lee obviously with a p and stuff you're going to need some kind of help and you can't really do everything by yourself so I wanted to remind them like the men and kind of just all the kinds of help that you can get based on your class that you're taking but also the teachers that can actually help you with different kinds of subjects other than teaching oh thank you all right we got to go to our next question how did you feel when you were recommended or knew that you had the opportunity to take an AP course First Student I deleted Emily hello my name is Omar Hernandez I'm currently a senior and I'm taking Human Geography when I heard that I had the chance to take an AP course I didn't really hesitate to take it because I like challenging myself in taking an AP course helps you prepare for college and look differently the world and like just overall challenging yourself and getting college credit during High School thank you so much next time please hi my name is Esmeralda Ramirez I'm a senior and currently I'm taking 3 AP classes the first feeling that I had when I was recommended was I just felt really good about myself because I prove to my teachers that I can go above and beyond in my academic tasks and courses and it motivated me to continue to like secret challenges and just try my best in my academic work thanks Lexington please I agree. I'm a freshman at Cary I take AP why have I had nerves I was kind of nervous because when you first get told her you and taking college classes refreshment you're not necessarily prepared for it right when I got into the classroom teachers really supportive resources to be able to study classical music reduction of what those courses are going to be like later on in life and especially as you go thank you Grace next my name call Elizabeth Lopez and I'm taking English lit and AP environmental science and something I felt when I learned that I have the opportunity to take AP classes but I was kind of thrilled because when I thought about it what weather what background you come from it really drives you because once you get into the classes you realize that once you take the effort put it in and then you get good grades and then you get you study and then you get a good score at the end of the day you get college credit and that's a less tuition fees you got to pay for thank you for bringing that up about the solution next to the please my name is Joaquin Ramirez I'm Junior High AP government and AP biology when I was recommended for AP I felt good because I knew that I had made myself standouts my teachers in a good way and I knew that I could further my education the very beneficial awesome thank you guys for that and we're going to go to question 3 what was your general thoughts before you took an AP course and what are your thoughts now the First Student please hello my name is Leonardo magana and I take AP psychology in English Lit class last year number I generally was nervous going into it thinking it would be overwhelming and heart that being said it wasn't the case as you took any stained class you realize you just have to put the work in that mean send my thoughts now I'm extremely glad that I take that class and take classes this year as it really is a good opportunity at the very least you want me to be ready for college hello my name is Maria Marlowe and I'm a senior and I'm taking AP Spanish language and 18 English literature and I took my first AP class last year with his AP Psychology and I would say that before I took it I was like nervous because I thought it was going to be extremely difficult I heard that it was like almost like a college class so I thought I was going to be stay behind I was going to struggle a lot with the class now my boss changed a law after taking the three AP classes I could say that it isn't as difficult as I thought it would be if anything I thought it was a pretty fun classic go to I got to learn many things I got to meet different people it was like a change of pace but also it was a refreshing to just kind of change environment they kind of change them the setting in the paste things thank you thank you Maria for giving us you are you know some experience of yours and giving us your feedback I really appreciate you being open texting please hello my name is Matthew. He's I'm taking AP Spanish weather is going to be you were going to be by her class by my mind completely cuz it's been a lot of fun time and it's like a plus thank you Lauren Exton hi my name is llama Lozano and I'm a senior right now I'm taking AP Spanish language and AP Spanish my first thought was that I was going to be stop burying her chest so I was like kind of afraid if I should take care and I and once I started like it's not that hard to do your work and whenever you need help you X your teacher and I think it's a very good opportunity wow some great examples of that question before and now we're going to go to the awkward question how is your AP course going or how did you go how did it go everywhere already completed onexton please I thoroughly enjoy my AP class very much learning about the human mind is just so fascinating and really just pushes me think more class texting please my AP classes are actually going pretty good better than last year I feel like I'm actually getting more than angry because last year was my first time having an AP class so this year is felt more like I got the hang of it like I could do this I feel like it helps you to think on a different level I love you thanks not just on the surface but like below the surface helps you to think what you know instead of the easy route that helps you to actually dig deeper into your own thoughts like why did you think that we're like what is this or you know elaborate more or to be more expensive in your writing it really upset so just wondering more within yourself and help you to be like a better student okay just life by Iceberg example of what's underneath you don't see you see whatever you do see it on top okay thank you I like that next please class is going great as I got to hang up since I started my sophomore year and it was it was hard for me when I first started but I was able to maintain those new skill that I learned and as the years went by I felt like those Concept in the skills I've learned those classes I'm able to find answers to the AP but to the owners as well so over all is going great for me awesome thank you thank you for giving that thus far and after I'm next to them okay let's go to the I'm sorry I am having delays in my internet connection sorry no problem how is your AP course going or how did it go if you're already deleted it microwave because you are going very well I feel like that although it's a little bit more difficult with online learning my teachers have become a lot more accommodating I feel like that's that's something that who runs right out of AP courses like they expect like very strict strict we're teaching and I feel like a lot of teachers have become more sympathetic with the with the workload and how much they allow students is explain themselves or they provide like an email beforehand and they'll extend deadlines or they can, spend one more one-on-one time through Google meets that wasn't available before a minor knee so because of that I feel like my AP courses have been a lot more productive and I've enjoyed them and learned a lot more throughout this past year using a learning so it's a now that is online and it's a law different perspective since we are online and we don't know what the future holds for us so thank you for giving that respect up appreciate it and are lasting for this question please I feel like with AP classes this year it's been a lot better honestly because I'm actually interested in the classes that I'm taking with AP Psychology my teacher is very accommodating and is kind of is comforting because he knows we're going through and he actually cares about like what we actually do in class and he wants to actually somehow make us all each other versus everybody kind of just being quiet so I feel like with this year it's a lot easier and it's just nicer to be kind of like comforted while we're going through this whole situation together thank you sky so much next we going to have Miss Perkins she's going to go with the next following questions let's working thank you Doctor Peterson I just want to say you guys I really appreciate your being here and being very honest about your your experiences absolutely kudos to you guys and that last question really is a great segue into the next question because I know with remote learning you guys are leaving on each other in very different ways so I'll go on to the next question how are you supported by classmates and bio teachers in AP courses well I have been like I didn't know a lot of people in my AP class because I have been like I'm in the IB program so I didn't know a lot of people and I was like folded clothes from freshman to Junior Hair By Design drop a class because it has been stressful with the online learning and I cannot focus all that so I have the choice to choose between an AP class and not honor class but I decided to challenge myself still even though I was in full diploma with the IB program but going on I still had like people that I knew from the program that I B program but I knew people from that the program that I was but I still got support and like the teachers if you have your teacher you should like email them and communicate with them and they're very understanding and they like extend the deadline on some things and just explain yourself and you'll be willing to help you with anything that you want to get help with I think Esmeralda is next well with the pain. Making everything I feel like it's really important for us to maintain connected with her teachers in and with our peers my AP teachers check in with us more often now and just to make sure that work on top of things I personally felt more comfortable with going to teachers might be teachers about any challenges that I face whether it was personal or academic and like when you meet and interact with the students and teachers you realize how well structured the classes are and how Center they are I'm success so and you like you feel really supported so that's helpful as a freshman I'm lying so I do have a different perspective as others I feel like really supported in these classes because anybody so during those classes like starting over I remember in the beginning or explaining the different ways that I personally take very detailed notes and a lot of kids of Lego world do you have no turn this on you how to get the parts of a lot to you by giving us a ton of different races a website that farther explain the government in the politics and what we are learning cuz that is a big topic and it has a ton of different part so I do feel like she's very supportive and I was like your classmates are there for each other even if like other classes there's differences with Kim at the end of the day they're still used I think we're not hearing overall is that remote for 80 has been awesome the next person that can go on their quest number 5 I think that is so Guadalupe classes have been pretty gray and I'll come and go for you love usually I'm the type of person who gets really scared to ask questions but personally with my AP teachers they always make the environment seem comfortable whether it's in remote learning or like physical in the classroom learning every time I'm there so I'm pretty sure you know that the incoming students who have the same problem that I do not that have a problem that and I feel like over the years the bond between students have been stronger because like I know that like in the past personally in my grade I don't have the big big the best bond with other students come senior but I noticed that was like the younger classes like the freshmen and sophomores they have like really so I know for sure that the incoming students will definitely have a great time good Jose I mean yeah joke when I'm sorry it's walking I find my AP teachers to be really supportive and I like they encouraged me to participate in class discussions as well as helping me to understand subjects in an interesting way like people said before because of the online learning I'm not really too close with my classmates I don't really know anyone in my classes and I've only had a few opportunities to work with them but most as I said before it looks like remote is is is successful to some degree for the AP students and I really really really hope that this transition into what once we become physically back on site I hope that teachers will continue in this way and that students will still have those connection so moving so what would you say to your friend who are thinking about a p kind of on the fence about a p what would you guys say based on your experiences or say I would say if you're thinking about going to college and yes it is you should definitely do your taking a college class to get in the experience of it jobs you understand like what college classes will kind of be like in demand for new work life and that's Casey get college credit for it which will save you money and that's what classes you have to take so for me I would definitely recommend it to a friend who is like kind of thinking about it because firstly they can Mike's. I didn't have anyone or like a friend to tell me like oh you just take AP it was like more of my decision like I had to think it over so me being able to recommend it to a friend like you might be confused of the car pause before it makes me feel good because I get to help them and then they could I have this experience that I had to and honestly it's an amazing experience because you get to have a change of pace of things you get meet new people you get to bond with your teacher so I would definitely recommend it cool I will recommend it to my friends cuz you're taking college credit and also you have finally about to go to class today cool star cic Giovanni and Leonardo didn't respond okay said I was the first one that spoke on that question I'm going to question number 7 correct dharani go ahead you you're definitely you can respond to question number 6 what would you say to a classmate who may be on the fence was thinking about it not sure kind of scared what would you say I would say that they should song you take the opportunity to expand what it is to be in AP course cuz it's actually pretty fun even though people might see as a Chinese of something that's very hard and afterwards once you finish our Compass today because you're probably going to be ready are you sad that you accomplished something tonight and you learn more about what it is like to be in a college course or college class so I would probably say that you should take so challenge take the challenge Michael you can go ahead and respond to number 6 what would you say to your peers I definitely Rick hi my name is Michael and if I definitely recommend AP classes to my friends cuz we were in the past when I receive the email that I selected to take AP classes I'm I like I can believe that my effort I think it's at this point and then I I say to my friends if you are selected to take AP classes you need to 8 because they improve your knowledge and then help you to go to I'm thing better schools or colleges or universities work pays off I think of your if you're late over thinking of you should I here soon will not take a if you're planning to attend call I think so it's something you should do and it's going to help you what I can prepare you for the future cool okay question number 7 does being in the AP program change your outlook about college and post-secondary goals maybe some of you came in thinking I don't know if I'm going to college if you change your thinking about it or if you change like what you're going do as a result even maybe change what you're going to major in in college as a result of taking certain AP classes how has being in this AP program change your outlook and we'll go to are for that I feel like the AP program is really prepared me for college it really makes me want to challenge myself and strive make me give me strength and confidence and courage for the future and for me to work harder nice I would say that it really helped me out a lot because just the fact of knowing that the same thing that you're learning now while you're in high school is the same things are being taught in college as far as like the the course or the standards or the books that you're reading it helps you to get a sense of what college might be like and helps you just to be prepared as far as the assignments to type in the you know the knowledge it just helps you feel like even though it feels like more work like you know like you got there so many kids in colleges like oh I did this a high school so it's like you don't you don't really feel like it's a lot of work is just like oh this is another AP class so you feel more and that's really the idea find the AP classes is really it does help you to get comfortable with the volume and with the rigor so absolutely we're going to go to the next person Lacey Sturm you gave used to like the volume of all the the working to give you but for me that I change my Outlook a sneaking my call as I was answering a p I thought all is just going to give me so much work and I will be stressed out and all that after you know the teachers face with just trying to do that work efficiently and cancer I was able to tell myself okay hopefully when I go to college my secondary goals I'll be able to prove to my professor that I have perseverance for basically any assignment that they give me your ready girl I hear it hear it Daniel I would say taking a few courses definitely give me more perspective on what I need to do not just in college and how it compared me to the definite does that but also what I need do for myself before college so like freshman year AP courses at least once at least one course every year in high school and fresh yeah I was I was really thinking I owe I'm struggling like I don't how to take another AP course at the time I was ready to take a lot more I be gorgeous as well so I was like I don't think I'm going to take it more AP courses so going to suffer here I was thinking I know I'm just going to I'm going to offer like honors which is the best and try to ensure that he's my way through high school bus I found that AP courses look really good for you and I'm college application and cubs want to see that you're if you're not if you're receiving grades grades go until one part of the story they need to see like the difficulty of what you learning and how you persevered her like what you have to show for it and learning difficulties take any precautions kind of like made me think more on track about what I need to do before College to make sure that I'm successful in being admitted to a college of my choice and number to be successful like how other people before me in my assignments for your honesty I thank you for not yielding to that desire to take an art class to kind of ease your way kind of take it to eat 0 thank you for purse persevering and going on and taking the AP class and you do your living Inside the Minds of an admissions officer that's the stuff that they're looking at when they look at your transcripts and I really appreciate hear it hearing that from you Elizabeth you can answer that question and then we'll move on to the next question thank you I feel like with 80 it kind of changed how I would look at College obviously like with these stop they are college-level and if you take the test and you get a 3 or higher by the end of it then you get some kind of like college credit and it made me want you actually like push myself further so that I can get a lot of college credit and not have to pay so much money for different kinds of classes and it just made me think that well I see all these other students I see all my other friends AP classes what makes me think that I can't do it and I've been doing AP classes sophomore year and this my last year so I feel like if any student I can do it that any student can do it you just have to push yourself and believe in yourself The Amazing Power of self-talk it's amazing if you tell yourself you can do it you asked we can do it I'm so we're going to move on to our final question you guys have been great I think I said that a hundred times and that's just because you really have then and everybody will get a chance to answer this question I'm just kind of live and for when your classmates are finished before you kind of gum come in is there anything else you like to share about your AP experience with students who are thinking about taking AP classes and it's fine if you don't want to share but if is there anything you like some final words we would greatly appreciate them you can share them I would just like to say that in the beginning it first one does taking AP class at first it was I was kind of hesitant because not the fact that I didn't want to take it I knew it would look good I knew like you know it would prepare me for college but I just I just thought honestly I heard it was going to be a lot of homework you know that you was going to be hard on you that it wasn't going to be as easy as you thought it was and I didn't want to mess up my GPA I was afraid to like my gray I didn't want that to affect me in a negative way and I call myself doing something better and I'm actually damaging my grade like I was I was really scared to take it but a lot of persistence for my counselors and Mom cuz I just take it like you know you'll do fine I'm like okay alright I got you but do it but when I did it actually is not a lot of homework like they make his name is really not is you to do your homework Adan don't be crass to me is really easy like as far as the homework and I given a ton of homework and a Triton 10 pages everyday after school like it's not that hard I'm working on getting homework yeah might be more difficult but the load is not unbearable the classes is maintainable in the teachers if you ask them for help and how do I how do I get I have a senior class how do I get an A do sit down and talk to you and let you I like how you can make your grade better in their classroom because I don't care you know so don't be scared or feel like it might you know hurt your GPA do it because if you got requested for it I don't think they will request you if 8 ball handling it so it's just you personally you got to trust yourself because you don't trust yourself you're not going to do it so even if people are telling you you have to trust yourself first and then know that you got it and go ahead and do it hard work pays off Amber you guys got to stop running from hard work okay Esmeralda I definitely agree with the Amber I think you just have to take that leap of faith don't be intimidated I know you're not alone I'm sure that the other people the other students that are recommended for a PR also feeling the same way but just don't be afraid to jump out of your comfort zone I think that if you if you decide to take AP classes you'll be more prepared for college and you'll be able to smoothly men that gap between college and high school so I recommend it is it is a great transition it is Grace you can go ahead I agree with everything that has been said so far I would just feel like dbol if you have a thought you have a connection just say it like if someone gives you a weird look it's because they are mad. goodbye before you don't be intimidated by whatever anyone telling you don't you love the face needles AP courses on your if that's what they're going to be looking for them and they're going to love that especially as like as you start off from the very start of your very start of your high career in like my teacher always says there's no boring ideas there's just boring people Queen Gracie I really like the way you answered that question you guys and the other thing that colleges do recognize and I hope this is encouragement for you to really start thinking about how you going to prepare for your AP exam when you come in with oars and fives and sixes on your AP exams they know that you have worked hard and you have studied hard because those tests are not easy so I'm looking forward to each and every one of you guys doing well we have a newcomer in here and I want to give her an opportunity to answer that final question I believe Christian Dobbins so we asked the question is there anything you would like to share about your AP experience with students who might be thinking about taking an AP course I heard Amber and I'll treat must agree with everything that Amber said you wouldn't be pick your teachers wouldn't pick you to be an AP student if they didn't think that you would text me but you cannot be a procrastinator when I started off at 80 hours for calculating and I can see that it wasn't really helping me so it's better to take precaution and be prepared like if you have a chance to do it now so that everything you can count on me like a lot you don't want to wait till the last minute because they ain't going to have more work to do in more work today it's not a lot of homework but it's a lot of paying attention wouldn't be nominated you wouldn't be picked by your teachers if they didn't think that she was capable of being able to handle that class thank you those were some really wonderful final words haste as my grandmother says haste makes waste so no crashing Nation get right to it do your homework you guys will learn this the wonderful skill love organizing when you get to college and all the things YouTube learning your AP classes will make even more sense as you go on to college again I Know Myself mr. Peterson we really really thank and appreciate you guys for coming out and what does it mean with your peers your experiences and it seems like as soon as as sad sometimes as we might get in this remote setting you guys have really had some great experiences it is really good to hear from you you and to know that there are some wonderful thing still happening even though there's some really bizarre things going on in the world so again thank you thank you thank you thank you you guys are amazing and I expect to see you do great things from the AP Team guys we just want to thank you once again for taking out your time out of your busy schedule and those were watching hopefully you able to obtain a lot of good information from our current students and thank you once again hello my name is mr. Walker I teach AP biology AP biology is a Kohl's for students who have already proved successful in biology chemistry in high school and they want to study biology in Greater detail it's an AP class so there's an exam at the end of it and depending on students performance in that exam college is sometimes off of credit but they the class or even its students of taking the class just the fact that they've taken the more challenging class looks good on the college application and students who like to press themselves a little fear that might be interested in taking this class in play the death the closest broken up into both the content that you need in biology and the skills that you need in biology as well as other Sciences to be successful if you were to take the biological course education consultant skills and talkin about being able to explain Concepts and visually represent concept questioning methodology describing data statistics getting a little mathematical about able to explain patterns that we see in nature argumentation these are skills that could be used in a lot of science classes but obviously with the biological theme in AP biology this content that might seem familiar having already taking biology in high school chemistry we we we saw it off with a unit on biochemistry that involves bonding the elements in finding living things micromolecules nucleic acids I've been to a unit on cell structure and how the cell membrane is responsible for transport osmosis diffusion things like that energetics photosynthesis respiration how enzymes Play Rollin Rollin Pathways cell communication signals between cells and the cell cycle mitosis meiosis which might be familiar from taking biology and we got into genetics in genetics pea plants things that can be non mendelian genetics when things get complicated episode of genes linked on the same chromosomes we get it to DNA replication and protein synthesis transcription and translation of gene expression mutations that listen to a conversation about Evolution natural selection that even ancestry it's a class that's structured by students being able to present whether it's content or whether it's sample College Board questions that they've been assigned to be able to explain and those presentations are sometimes individual sometimes working in a group to be able to prepare students for college life but sometimes. confidence that students might need when they get to College we can kind of work on what you said in high school so that's a brief rundown of what AP biology is like I know you'll be hearing from students who have taken the class and what they think of it and if you're interested I look forward to seeing you I miss the road and your friendly May AP Computer Science thinking about taking AP Lang I'm here to tell you that you should totally take it what we doing class is we explore how people use words in writing and speaking and visual text to connect with us in some way to argue with us in some way to convince us or persuade us up some things basically what we learned is how people communicate to get what they and as writers how we can also use our skills of writing and communication to get what we want as well this is a class where you work hard but we grow a lot we dig into some really into sing topics on as we prepare for the AP language exam in may I being a great class to really understand the workings of rhetoric of communication that's a great opportunity for you to get some college credit when taking and passing the AP English exam at the end of the year and since it's a line to the SAT and help prepare for the SAT all year round as well in AP language we spend more time on nonfiction whether that lyrics or biographies articles speeches sometimes it's advertising sometimes it's videos we spend more time looking at that relationship between the speaker the intended audience and the message so a lot of what you seen in the world today style and I teach AP Literature and composition here at Curie High School I wanted to share a little bit about what the course and Tails and why I'm excited for you to take it AP English Literature and composition is designed based on the college board AP curriculum discourse engages students in the careful reading and critical analysis of literature on one level we will be examining and writing about how such elements a structure figurative language and symbolism help shape attacks meaning on a deeper level however we will be studying the common bonds between all individuals and what it means to be a human so we have a lot of really great discussions in an AP English Literature and composition and I'm really excited for you guys to be a part of that discussion hi I miss Faulkner and I teach AP environmental science a little bit about this class it is an interdisciplinary course that combines some different topics together so we have Natural Sciences which are like biochem atmospheric science and it also has some social sciences as well so politics ethics economic so put together a little bit of something for everybody some of the topics that we discuss our ecosystems human population growth resource and energy use pollution agriculture climate change and sustainability is so all those things you think of when you hear the term being green or going green and a lot of these topics are going to be big areas of job growth in the future so it would be very important to learn about these and possibly be able to get a job in this field in the future so the people who should be spayed hang up for apes are students who wish to learn about current environmental issues and how to live a more sustainable lifestyle it is technically open to both Juniors and seniors but Juniors have to take physics their junior year but if you're ambitious you could double up on your science courses but mostly it's seniors and of course involves a lot of Reading Writing and data analysis so it's important to have strong writing and math skills and also the content is biology and chemistry so it's really recommended that you got good grades in those courses prior to taking this class and just one other thing that might sweeten the deal for you we do a mandatory field trip in the fall are you go out of school day we go out tracking we take some data down and it's basically an opportunity for you to be be like a an actual scientist and so I hope you will consider taking this course thanks okay hi I'm just a building and I teach music Curie high school and so today there's a question on the table what is AP music theory and why should you take it or who would want to take it okay so let's answer that question briefly obviously APS advanced placement and it is for all High School Musical songs and vocalist now I want to put a litter addendum on that is for all high school musicals and vocalist really who want to understand music a little better not just play it but understand on different levels okay and when I say different levels is a level of Music Theory music history music appreciation so many different levels of music composing arranging sight singing I notice it's all high school musicals and vocalist vocalist especially for you so many vocalists will benefit from this class a vocalist you know what key you sing in you have a better understanding of sight singing it would just be amazing when you unibrow musicians who are seriously professional and who is it for this is the bottom line this is how I really feel a p music is for high school music stations I want to keep playing music After High School now I'm not saying Pittsburgh musicians who want to take music in College of course it would help you tremendously to pass College music exams and to be one of the top college music students if you should decide to go that route but also it will help you play music for the rest of your life whether you're playing as a hobby or whether you play as a semi-pro Semi-Pro as a musician and vocalist that accepts money but maybe they have another job okay and of course you might want to be a pro travel the world playing music oh my God is the greatest job playing music is the greatest job on the planet so okay notice I have keyboard procussions representing the symbols representing percussionist unit which includes drum timbale players by the sea Austrian Place really brass players Auburn's player and of course woodwind player so who is AP music for you can probably answer that now it's for the Young high-school musician that wants to understand music and take it to the next level who wants to be the best musician bacon B and I'm here to help you do it once again I missed a falchion I'm a music teacher at Curie High School ksenia in AP music take care hi everyone my name is Mister Jacob Rangel and I will be teaching advanced placement physics next school year so far a little bit about the course AP Physics is a senior science course specifically it's a Physics course and it's the same as a entry level Physics course at a college so if you went to Daley College and you said it on their freshman civics class our senior year AP Physics course would be the same is basically a continuation of the you know if your junior year Physics course but we just a little bit more in-depth so some topics that were going to be talk how is velocity acceleration forces momentum energy rotational motion electricity magnetism and waves so I mean it's all going to be consoles that you've seen before but we in call little bit more in-depth than you did your Junior hear this course is open to all seniors but I would say you know this course is sort of intended for people who are interested in the topic from the junior physics courses do you know you're taking physics in you really interested in the topics and you want to learn more about it this course of perfect for you if you are considering a major in some sort of stem field you know you want to have a career in engineering chemistry face masks this course is also perfect for you or you know if you just want to get a head start on taking college-level courses while you're still in high school you should definitely take this class there are some benefits to taking AP Physics the first is that we are going off of the University of Illinois their curriculum that they have developed and give to their students so you know we're going to be doing the same license they're going to give us all you know what the iclicker and the same equipment that they use all free of charge to carry students taking this course gives you a chance to earn college credit while you're still in high school so at the end of the course there is what we call an AP exam and basically this exam covers everything that we learned from September to May and if you do well enough on the test then you give college credit which intern you know allows you to save a lot of time and a lot of money because you know you don't have to take this course once you get to college but say you don't get the credits you know I think this course is still beneficial because It prepares you for what a science course is going to be like you're better off taking this and then taking a college-level physics classroom in a college-level science class than you are without taking this course and last I would say you know this class does help with college admissions It Off somebody who is working in admissions for a college sort of reviews your transcripts and sees that you have an AP Physics course your senior year it shows that you're taking the initiative to you to learn more about the Sciences even when it's not have you to do that and just some final remarks here on there are some other prerequisites that I do recommend not required though you know I do recommend that you are going to spend at least one to two hours per week status quo on this course you know whether it's doing homework whether it is doing your lab reports or you know as we get closer to the AP exam you know you're spending some time outside of school studying for that test as well it's also important comfortable with your algebra and trigonometry there are some topics that you learned in your math classes that we're going to apply in these physics courses you know so it's important that you are comfortable with things that you're learning in your math classes and last but I would say most importantly it is important that you have a good work ethic okay in order to be successful in this class you do need to you know get the work done you know anytime outside of school you know making sure that you understand the material and asking for help if you need it and you know if you are confused it's important that you do sort of see got help and you are persistent in learning these new topics that's all I've got hopefully you will consider signing up for AP world and that color is all generated inside your brain I'm a neural impulse I know is not cool that's something that we look at in AP psychology Unity middle and has a smelly ever get angry I think we've all gotten angry amygdala is a component in your brain as within a system known as the limbic system and it is a major player and emotions AP Psychology covers a lot of different topics what are B sensation and perception like I talked about earlier with your eyes and interpretation of color or the way something smells touch the three smallest bones in the human body they're inside your ear and your sound that you hear listening to the vehicle if it's being processed inside your against another neural impulse pretty. We look into that mental health it's an issue in the United States as well as around know anybody that is depressed or maybe you've might have felt that way you're not alone depression is the number one mental health disorder humans on Earth followed closely by anxiety it's treatable to it's nothing to be ashamed of and 3 we're going to dig into all sorts of different mental health issues and treatment take AP psychology ever stopped and thought hey wait a second thought that's cognition thinking processes memory dreams I had a dream once that hamburger was trying to eat me does it mean anything not really you can spend your time trying to interpret dreams but I don't know if that's really going to get you anywhere that you want to be but we will examine dreams and the concept of and thought in AP Psychology recover but I do want to get to some of the the basics this is a science so we'll definitely look at research and theories which is pretty interesting brain component of certain way when they're around a group of people versus a small loan facility psychology Navy school year do they take AP psych all of the United States will take an exam in May it consists of an MCU multiple choice and an frq free response questions now it doesn't affect your grade at all at your high school okay so you can rest assured but if you score 3 4 or 5 you can earn college credit pretty cool right take AP Psychology you're going to like it take care hey everybody this is mr. Mike house key here representing AP Psychology for Curie high school I love the course I've been teaching it for 14 years what is psychology what do you see AP Psychology is in the social studies department and yet we study the human brain we study human behavior why we behave the way we do why we think the way we do how our memory Works in in how we deal with stress we speak about mental health in Psychology and we study depression and anxiety disorders we study social interactions between people and how we've one another in both good ways and in not so good ways topics like prejudice and discrimination but then we also study how we develop as humans from womb to tomb from cancer through all the processes we go through as we age and go through childhood and Adolescence and adulthood the course has anybody been to a buffet lots of different food at a buffet write so much to eat you don't necessarily like it all but you probably have something you enjoy the buffet that's how I think about AP Psychology we study so many different aspects of our shared humanity and I love the course it's help me live a better life it's help me be a better teacher and a better husband and realistically that's why I want you to take AP Psychology not just to get college credit for though that's good to take AP Psychology is is about helping us be better humans all around so I have a really good day and I hope to see you next year I teach AP Spanish language and culture in this course we study seems like families and communities contemporary Global issues one of my favorite topics of Science and Technology because we focus on the contributions made original people and I love teaching about me cuz we're at the end of the course you take the exam that assesses listening reading speaking and writing skills for example you would learn how to write a formal reply in Spanish when we write argumentative essay you can transfer those skills to your English courses you also have the opportunity to take the state seal by literacy exam which automatic friendship college credit or an important component to your recipes menu for students also earn a minor in our state universities taranto's Pizza playlist my name is mister hiren I teach AP u.s. History at Cary high school so why study AP u.s. So what do we do the Curie AP academic success group is designed to help students learn new skills develop self-confidence become more aware of others views and experiences practice new behaviors and better understand how to deal with the problem life prison and part of this group is that we help to empower and support any student that is struggling in an AP class we provide the resources that will support academic Improvement and we shall discuss issues openly with our peers what's the worst struggles concern and Life Experiences some of the topics that we really get into when we joined the group our study skills where we are introducing New Strand how do you spell increase your studying mindfulness where we practice activities that will help you focus on your awareness in the present moment just be present time management we are helping you bring different methods of organizing and planning your time between Pacific specific activities goal setting where we work on establishing a measurable objectives and time frames. accomplish your task and finally growth mindset what we look deeper into the self-perception or cell theory that people hold about themselves and we have a little fun with all of these topics so very engaging on the VAP group begins after first-quarter grades are released we have seven sessions of the group we meet one day a week for one class Chrono cross.
