hello and welcome to our video for the freshmen Carrie freshman so our shopping for today is my freshman my weight steps to my vision for Success Beyond High School and this is meant to be a post-secondary check-in but we've also included instructions for programming in this video so stay tuned for the end and we'll be sure to provide some updates for you very shortly just remind you guys that we are just a few just a couple of the counselors that are here at Chorizo although we may not officially be assigned to you we're here to come deliver to some very important dates for the freshman so here we have Miss Lopez hi guys and I am a Spotify or email addresses are on the screen up above please contact your counselor if you have any questions related to this video they can also help just a quick little you know gender for what we're going to discuss in today's video we are going to check in with you in terms of your social emotional learning also we will be providing some academic reminder and graduation requirements along with learn plan succeed success overview learn fantasy Dover be rather and at least we will provide sound programming procedures towards the end of this video and just kind of start us off we will do a quick little check-in for your social emotional well-being and just a couple reminders for you you absolutely matter so when comes to you advocating for your mental health your academic support and you know just advocating for your rights as a student and not only your rights but also communicating with your teachers this is very much a part of what success in high school looks like so this is your chance to make connections with other students with other staff members and you actually matter within the security community so you know this is not a time to be isolated this is the time free child and interact with one another whether it be through your Google needs clubs this works virtually if you know if it comes sounds good. thank you I miss battle I still now we're going to talk about what are the graduation requirements we just finished the first semester so you guys were able to earn some credits at the end of January and so just to kind of give you a quick overview in order to grow from any carry out from any CPS High School you would need four years of English three years of math the sequence for that would be algebra integrated math and advanced algebra trig if you came in and placed each of 8th grade during 8th grade you took algebra and then you your sequence would change a little bit you would come in taking integrated math Advanced algebra trade and dine your junior year for science the sequence for your graduating class is bio chemistry and physics you are required to take three years of a social science you must take world studies and US history and then your junior year you're able to take a social studies elective but there has to be a Civics from phone into that and there's a very very many options that you are able to select from for the World Language requirement you need 2 years of the same language this is very important the options would be French Mandarin and Spanish you also need two years of a fine arts in this category you're able to cut and paste at your at your you know liking you can do two years of Arts you could do two years of music or one of each dance is also an option I'm one year of a career add-on this is an elective class that comes from either the program of study that you are you know in Roldan for example for the CTE students you one of those classes it could be added as an option as well you everybody is required to take one year of Computer Science 2 years of PE the sequence here eone mpeg-2 and then you have 3 elective courses bees are also part of to be clumped up with that one year of the curry red ZTE Avid music all right all of these credits should equal 24 at the end in addition to these credits you are also required to have non-credit graduation these are in addition so but a lot of them are linked to your classes so you need to hear it to service learning projects as I mentioned earlier you needed this to fix it and then you also need another service project these are usually found either in your CPE classes in Avid in English in history in GE so there's very many different options that you're able to get this service learning requirement completed you also need the US Constitution exam for sophomore year you would take us history in addition to passing the class and getting the credit you also need to pass the exam you also need consumer and finance illiteracy historically was done in the expression computer science I heard it's been moved over to the history department now so it's going to be done in one of your history classes in addition you also required to do the driver's education class this is done sophomore year in Pikachu and it is very different there's always a misconception students say they think they pass PE but then they end up not passing the add component these are two different components in one class so attendance is key for the driver's ed if you miss more than be a lot of time and you don't accumulate all your hours in the classroom you will fail the class even you passed the exam very important health education is offered in PE 1 PSAT assessment is done your junior year in the spring and then you are also required to do the FAFSA free application for student aid this is done senior year and then finally learn plan succeed everybody is required to have this requirement done their senior year as well those are all the graduation credit and non-credit requirements for the class of 2024 now we're going to go over and quickly try and give you an overview of what learn plan succeed and so every 12th grader 12th grade students must have evidence of the of what it is if they're going to do once they leave Cary high school you have to have a concrete plant and you provide this plan to your counselor prior to leaving prior to getting your diploma this is a process that takes usually a year-long however we want you guys to start thinking about it it's never early and so as freshman you all need to be aware of what this is and how you get there how to give you a really quick overview these any of these options any of these Pathways wood would constitute a concrete post secondary plan for the first one in the most common one for our students would be College enrolling in either of four or 2-year institution and the way that you provide proof that you're going to colleges by providing your counselor with a financial aid award letter and then your counselor will help you do all the necessary stuff when roll and to select classes at the University or College of your choice the second option would be the military you would enroll in any of the six branches and you would provide and then listen live contract saying that you are in fact going to join there's also a process for that there's an exam and so once you get to the point where you secure contact Jared and we uploaded to Naviance and that your plans to enroll the third one would be a trade or an apprenticeship this one is kind of like a combination of on-the-job training and some classroom instruction to sometimes the trade in The Apprentice would be offered through one of the city colleges so there's a little bit of an Uber lab in this one I'm examples of Trades would be like going into trying to do construction manufacturing maybe some jobs in the healthcare would be also options of for this when you would need an acceptance letter that you will be joining you know a union or enrolling at a school where you we get the certificate to complete that trade the fourth option would be employment for this one you would just need to provide a letter to your counselor saying that you would be in full time at whatever company you are currently working or plan to work after graduation and V option would be job a job training program so this is program typically in a giving you more employability and increasing your earnings some examples of job training programs would be like Americorps Job Corp you would have to apply to those specific programs got a letter saying that you've been accepted and provide that letter to your counselor as well and then finally Gap year program this one is not very common however it is still an option and with this one this would be where you enroll in the program and in this program if there's going to be a combination of like volunteer work service on Career exploration you're trying to figure out exactly what it is that you want to do in the future and these programs you apply to these programs and they give you the tools necessary to do a mock interviews how to prepare your resume how to do different career assessment to be able to narrow and help you create a plan after you're done with the program the program is usually a semester or a year and so it's just a you know a lot of students sometimes think a gap year is I'm going to take a you're not going to do anything that is not the case you need to be enrolled in one of these programs and you need to provide proof that this is the route that you're going to go so she would all of these options to all the six different pathways are half to be evidence that you will be enrolling in any of these so and we're here to support you I know this is a lot of information and it could be overwhelming but just know that all your email as counselor right here to help you and to provide the assistance that you through this process and so which path will you choose their six different paths a lot of information and like I said earlier it's never too early to start planning and its 2 Lorene an option is Naviance and all of the different tools that we try and give you during our lessons to kind of get you start thinking about this time flies and when you least sit there you are getting ready to graduate and so now we're going to shift the conversation and we're going to talk about sound programming procedures and as I mentioned earlier I gave you like a quick run run. what's the graduation requirements are and this is a sample sophomore schedule everybody needs to have English to as one of the courses and the only difference that would be what you're taking a regulars or an honors in business for all your poor classes chemistry would be the science class that's in sequence US history and integrated math so if you have been recommended by your teachers to take honors classes that is going to be pre-populated and Miss clavel I will walk you through that process and show you how that is done you were fit class on your schedule should be PE shoe then some students have the option of choosing an elective classes to be an art of music or a language and then your last class should be the class that you are taking for the program of study some examples would be a VIP ZTE if you're in the performing arts program then you would be also taking one of those classes and so at this time is Babel I will go ahead and show
