Since 1998, The Dance Department at Curie Metropolitan High School has been presenting exciting, theatrical, and thought provoking dance, featuring versatile, and technically trained performers. Curie's dancers have been described as athletic, fluid, dynamic, and part of a driving force in the contemporary dance scene winning awards in Livorno, Italy, Barcelona, Spain, Kentucky Derby Parade and throughout the Chicago area. Students travel and perform throughout the world including France, Italy, Spain, New York, Florida, Kentucky and Chicago.
As a contemporary repertoire dance school, dancers have worked with an impressive array of companies, choreographers and dancers including, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre --NY, The Australian Dance Theatre, Wayne McGregor/Random Dance Company -- London, Hubbard Street Dance -- Chicago, The Ontario Ballet, Robert Moses' Kin - San Francisco, Renanna Raz - Israel, Gallim Dance - New York, Batsheva Dance Company - Israel, Joe Goode Performance Group -San Francisco, Cerqua Rivera Art Experience - Chicago, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance - NY, Urban Bush Women, The Lyric Opera, Jane Comfort & Company- NY, Diavolo -- California, and Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan.
Alumni and their companies, schools past and present include Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre (NY), Ballet X, Cirque De Soleil, Fordham University (NY), Purchase College State University of New York, University of the Arts (Philadelphia), Boston Conservatory of the Arts, University of San Francisco, Ball State University, Cerqua Rivera Art Experience, Joel Hall Dance, MaryMount Manhattan College (NY), The Dance Center at Columbia College (IL), North Carolina School of the Arts, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (NY), Northeastern Illinois University, So You Think You Can Dance Season 11, University of Illinois, Southern Illinois University, Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, DePaul University, and Eastern Illinois University. Dancers have been featured on television shows including: Legendary, The Grammys, Coachella with Beyonce, Empire, Emmy Awards, American Music Awards, BET Awards and music videos and performances with Cardi B., Janelle Monae, Chance, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj. In 2019 Curie Dance Alumni Stanley Glover received the Princess Grace Award in Dance.
Curie’s Dance Department offers an internationally acclaimed dance major for students entering academic grades 9 through 12. Admission to the School’s dance program is by live and virtual auditions for 2022-2023. Applications are open, so we encourage you to start the process!
- Friday January 7, 2022 – Live Audition. No Registration needed. Time: 4:00pm-5:00pm. Please bring a pen to fill out paperwork and wear clothing that is appropriate to dance in.
We also still have the option of submitting your audition by video if a student cannot attend in-person.
- Monday, January 31, 2022– Virtual Audition Materials DUE
Virtual Auditions are to be sent to MAWilson1@cps.edu. Submissions must be clearly marked in the subject line with student’s name, CPS email, CPS identification number and current school they are enrolled in. Applicants will be notified by CPS directly regarding admission status.
