Course Descriptions

Drama 1:
Prerequisites: None
Open to: Drama major and Non-major Students
Fees: None
 
Drama 1 is an introductory course to Dramatic arts. We will cover a wide variety of topics from, Improv, Scene Work, Monologues, Play creation, Play writing, Characterization, Performance Feedback, Performance analysis, etc. These are just a few of the topics we will and might cover. In keeping with the core values of Theater, this class will move through topics faster or slower based on student participation and mastery. This class is not designed to make you a great actor, it is designed to build your confidence in front of others and build your executive functioning skills. 
 
Semester 1: Semester one focuses on improv, group work, scene production, characterization, and memorization. Students will perform many different scenes with varying partners. There will also be a journal collection. Journals are self reflective writing pieces about Drama class and what we are learning. You will also have a mid term exam and final exam that summates your knowledge of terms and practices. 
 
Semester 2: Semester 2 focuses more on characterization, performance feedback and analysis. In addition this semester is strictly solo work. You will personally develop your acting skills, script analysis, character analysis, and memorization skills through monologue work. These will be self written, created, and pulled from theatrical works. Journals are also collected throughout the semester. As with first semester, you will also have a mid term exam and final exam that summates your knowledge of terms and practices. 
 
 
Drama 2:
Prerequisites: Drama 1, Major audition, or consent of instructor
Open to: Drama major and Non-major Students
Fees: Performances
 
Drama 2 is the second introductory course to Dramatic arts. We will cover a wide variety of topics from, Improv, Scene Work, Monologues, Play creation, Play writing, Characterization, Performance Feedback, Performance analysis, etc. We will also spend more time working towards class performance of One Acts and small full length plays. In addition, students will work on design and production techniques. These are just a few of the topics we will and might cover. In keeping with the core values of Theater, this class will move through topics faster or slower based on student participation and mastery. This class is not designed to make you a great actor, it is designed to build your confidence in front of others and build your executive functioning skills. 
 
Semester 1: Semester 1 picks up where Drama 1 ended. We will continue to work on characterization, performance feedback and analysis. In addition this semester we will learn about auditioning practices for the stage. You will personally develop your acting skills, script analysis, character analysis, and memorization skills through monologue work. These will be self written, created, and pulled from theatrical works. Journals are also collected throughout the semester. Students will also go and see performances to reflect and discuss there theatrical elements once each semester. Student's will also have a mid term exam and final exam that summates your knowledge of terms and practices.
