COURSE DESCRIPTION: A course for ninth grade students which allows for integration of the five Social Studies State Goals: Government, Economics, History, Geography, and Social Systems.
The course offers an opportunity for students to study both non-Western and Western civilizations, as well as make connections with the Humanities, Literature and The Arts.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for the more advanced student who is able to work at a faster pace and cover material at a more in depth level.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Focus on the political, cultural, and economics development of the United States. Analyze the contributions of various groups to the growth of the United States,
as you learn to read critically and interpret U.S. history from 1450 through the New Deal and World War II (including the Holocaust).
Develop an understanding and appreciation for social and economic systems in which you live, and gain the skills needed to interpret historical sources.
(Fulfills the Publics Law 195 graduation requirement.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Develop an appreciation for the diverse populations who shaped the United States and its political and economic systems as you trace the evolutions of this country's status in the world.
Activities include research, written assignments, projects, critical thinking, and interpreting maps, charts, and graphs. Also expect to participate in the Chicago Metro History Fair.

CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN HISTORY/CONSUMER ED 23810

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Focus on the political, social, and economic challenges presented by the globalization of America. Examine diversity in a pluralistic society as a major theme.
Apply economic and team principles in a selected simulation, and use newspaper and magazines for instant updates.

ECONOMICS/CONSUMER EDUCATION 23910

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Junior Achievement Economics is a study of fundamental economic concepts and their application to the free enterprise system.
The course will concentrate on micro-economics but includes aspects of macro-economics. International economic developments of the 21st century are discussed.
Students will participate in computer and role-play activities. Textbooks and study guides are complimentary.
This course also satisfies the consumer education requirement of the State of Illinois for high school graduation.

LAW IN AMERICAN LIFE 28010

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Acquire knowledge of the legal structure of our society and see how the law works in everyday life.
Analyze case studies, examine legal forms, learn legal terminology, participate in role-playing and simulations, visit the courts and hear guest speakers.
Also participate in a mock trial competition.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Use applied psychology to cover topics that include understanding yourself, common sense versus science, human relationships, and thoughts and emotions as they shape personality.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Study the world to discover the relationship between people and earth, and how they have impacted earth's environment.
Emphasis is on the earth in space, physical environment, and the present political divisions of the world. Map and graph reading skills will be strengthened.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Trace the emergence of cities and civilizations to understand the city today and major urban problems.
Specific topics include crime, air pollution, water pollution, transportation, housing, minority groups and city planning.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Prepare for the AP exam by enrolling in this college level course. If you do well on the exam, you may earn college credit in addition to high school credit. Conduct an in-depth study of the political, cultural, and economic history of the United States to understand historical issues, (There is a strong suggestion that a student should be enrolled in or have taken one of the following English courses: American, World or English Literature.)
